Hello everyone! It’s less than a month away from the official release of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC on June 21st. I believe that many loyal Souls-like fans have already started to prepare for the new expansion. In this guide, I will share the best starting build I created to help you get a head start when entering the new content, and that’s my Overpowered Capra Demon Build!
As usual, we first need to understand the 3 important traits of this build: How powerful is it? In which stages of Elden Ring DLC does it come into play? How difficult is it to collect the items required for this build? Of course, if you buy Elden Ring Runes a lot in advance, it will not be a problem at all! Without further ado, let’s jump right in!
Great Omenkiller Cleaver
Let’s start with the topic of weapons. You need to use two of the same weapon, and Great Omenkiller Cleaver is your best choice.
Because there is a chance that you can get more than one Great Omenkiller Cleaver in each New Game. You can get one by defeating Omenkiller and his Poison Flower at the end of Perfumer’s Grotto.
Perfumer’s Grotto is located on Altus Plateau on the map. My advice is to try to kill Omenkiller first and stay away from the flower, as you can only go looking for it when Omenkiller is dead.
Also, you can get two more at Volcano Manor. The first one is dropped by Omenkiller when he is staring at the ashes of what may be his victim. He is just behind the house when you leave Prison Town Church Site of Grace and turn right. Be extra careful here, as he is surrounded by a group of mobs.
The second Omenkiller is in a secluded area, but at least he is alone, so it is not difficult to kill.
Great Omenkiller Cleaver is a Greataxe that requires 23 Strength and 12 Dexterity to wield it.
I also thought about trying Dual Wielding Sword of Milos, but since you can only get one per game, I gave up on that idea.
Ashes Of War
For Ash of War, we have a lot of options. I think we can consider all attack related stuff like Wild Strikes, which is also the default skill of GOC. So skills like Stamp (Upward Cut), Lion’s Claw and Spinning Slash are enough.
But I recommend you to choose 2 of Ash of War: Braggart’s Roar. Braggart’s Roar skill increases your physical damage by 10%, all damage absorption by 10%, increases stamina recovery speed and changes the moveset of your heavy attacks, and it lasts for 1 minute! You can get it by killing Blackguard Big Boggart or completing his questline.
In addition, Ash of War: War Cry increases your physical damage by 7.5% and gives 5 strength attribute points. It also modifies your heavy attack and lasts for 40 seconds. You can get it from Knight Bernahl for 800 Elden Ring Runes.
Ash of War: Barbaric Roar increases your physical damage by 7.5%, strength by 5%, and in addition, it modifies your heavy attack. It lasts the same 40 seconds as War Cry. You can get it by killing Teardrop Scarab at the end of Ravine-Veiled Village in Liurnia of the Lakes.
But here’s an important detail: Roar in this game works like a weapon buff. So if you decide to apply poison to a weapon, it will remove all bonuses from Roar skill. With that in mind, you’ll want to apply Roar skill to your left hand as well. But which one should you choose?
Weapon Affinity
I recommend setting the affinity of both weapons to Occult to take advantage of Bleeding status built into GOC. Keep in mind that setting the weapon to Occult Affinity requires Black Whetblade. But in the absence of Black Whetblade, setting Affinity to Heavy will be the best course of action at this point.
By default, all Roar Ashes of War are set to Heavy. But if you decide to use other types of Ashes of War, you’ll need Iron Whetblade. It is located in Stormveil Castle, near Grafted Scion, behind a fog wall, and requires a Stonesword Key to open it.
Talismans
Now let’s talk about Talismans. At this point, I think the first Talisman you need for this build is obvious, and that is Roar Medallion. This Talisman increases the damage of Roar skill by 15%. It also increases the attack damage of almost all Dragon Communion Incantations by 10%.
This build uses a lot of charged attacks, so Axe Talisman is a good choice. This Talisman stacks with Roar Medallion and increases the damage of charged attacks by 10%. It is easier to obtain and is located in a small tomb in Mistwood. You just need to rush over the bear and grab it.
Also, since this build has a signature jump attack. Therefore, Claw Talisman is a good choice. It increases the jump attack damage by 15%, which is very useful for this build.
The last one is Lord of Blood’s Exultation. This amulet increases attack damage by 20% for 20 seconds when blood loss occurs nearby, including the player’s own. It is obtained after defeating Esgar, Priest of Blood, located in Leyndell Catacombs.
Magic Spells
Next, let’s talk about Magic Spells. I think this build would be too barebones without spells, so I just picked a few to optimize its damage output.
First up, Flame Grant me Strength is a spell that requires 15 points of Faith to cast. It increases physical damage and fire damage attacks by 20%, plus it increases stamina regeneration by 11%, and these buffs last for 30 seconds.
The second spell is Golden Vow, which requires 25 points of Faith to cast. It increases all damage by 15% and increases all damage negation by 10%. It lasts for 80 seconds. The cool thing is that it multiplies with Flame Grant me Strength for a total of 38% increased damage.
The third option is Black Flame’s Protection. It costs 30 Faith, so it’s a bit high. It increases physical damage resistance by 35%. I repeat, it only increases physical damage resistance, so it doesn’t work against magic, holy or lightning attacks. It also reduces all forms of healing by 20%, so it’s a debuff that lasts for 70 seconds.
Armor
Now finally comes the most anticipated part. We can choose from a bunch of armor sets, but almost none of them work in the game.
The only Elden Ring items I think is necessary here is the headgear, which is Omensmirk Mask. It increases the strength attribute points by 2, so you can even set the strength to 21, and Mask will increase it to 23, which is the strength you need to deal with GOC one-handed.
For the rest of the armor sets, I think Champion Set is a good fit for Capra Demon. Note that Capra Demon only uses a pair of torn shorts, that’s it.
That’s all the tips you need to know for a Capra Demon build. Master this OP build and you’ll be invincible in Shadow of the Erdtree, so give it a try!
